About "trading down" in the pro hoops draft

It's odd that the Times paints this year's draft as a weak one. While it's true there aren't a great deal of quality big men to be had, there are a wealth of experienced guards... in year's past, most guards taken tended to be out of high school. You'll see more Brandon Roy-esque players in the league as a result, and less high-risk/reward prospects. All told, this is a deep draft.
Look for the Blazers to trade up to a spot in the 4 to 8 range to get Westbrook... or Augustin.

Sports Illustrated has a list of the top 15 worst draft picks in NBA history. Portland has 2 of them. Let's hope we don't get another one this year.
And, for that matter, let's hope we didn't get one of the worst picks last year. (Did I say that out loud?)

What?? Ixnay. Augustin may not even go as a lottery pick, much less top 10.
I'm a proponent of packaging the pick and some players (Outlaw, Frye) for any kind of midlevel vet/swingman. We've got plenty of development work to do around Oden and Rudy.

We're already pretty deep at the 1/2 positions. Oden. LaMarcus and Pryzbilla are not the most durable players in the world - please get another big guy.
Chicago taking Rose when they have Hinrich? Especially when your front court is Joakim Noah, Gooden and Tyrus Thomas? Why do I think Paxson is gonna screw this up?

If you see another Brandon Roy or Chris Paul (excluding maybe Derrick Rose) in this draft, let me know.
