Write in Sal Kadri for mayor

If you're thinking "anyone but Sam for mayor," and if Sho Dozono doesn't do it for you, consider my nascent campaign to write in Sal Kadri for mayor. Kadri is a commissioner on the Portland Development Commission, but hey, don't touch that mouse yet!!! He's one of the good guys in the effort to try to convert the PDC into a more reality-based organization.

Kadri was part of the movement to kill off the ill-advised Convention Center hotel scam (which has since gravitated over to Metro). Last week he said some politically incorrect, but deadly accurate, things about the PDC's involvement in low-income rental housing.

Once the new mayor gets into office, all the face cards in the PDC will likely be shuffled yet again, and that could mean that Kadri would be leaving public life when his commissioner term ends in mid-2009, if not before. He's got good credentials -- why not? Write him in for mayor.

Good call. Kadri would be nuts to do it, but he'd be great.

Mmmmmm. Write-in candidates have a poor record of winning so long as the favorite (nee incumbent) and the challenger avoid the live boy/dead girl postulation.

Even a deceased incumbent has better odds than a write-in candidate.

Maybe Kadri could take over the PDC instead?

As I say, when the new mayor gets in there, the PDC heads will no doubt roll once again.

um. . . . no thanks. I'll take my chances with the dodgy ones we got. Devil you know and all that.

Kadri's remarks about affordable housing make as much sense as Bush's "economic stimulus" package to me.

I've heard write-in candidates just get ignored by the election counters. I think I'll vote for Christopher Rich the first time around. Hopefully, there's a subsequent run off, and probably between Dozono and Scam Adams. I'll go with Dozono over Scam Adams, hopefully, slowing the eastward march of streetcar systems. It may be futile, but I don't want the congestion, high density and crime streetcars probably would bring to my east side neighborhood. Buses are just fine.

Jack,
I'm crushed. I thought I was your favorite write-in candidate.

How long do you think someone with a logical viewpoint would survive in the snakepit that is City Hall? You'd need to weed out the guys like Adams and leonard first before any progress can happen.

I Think Mr, Kadri's remarks about "affordable" housing are on the money. If you don't think so, just ask anyone that has lived long term in City run Section 8 housing. They are all poorly maintained toilets.

I hear that he favors big boxes on E Burnside.
