No time like the present
There's less than two weeks left to register to vote in the May 20 Oregon primary. The deadline is a week from Tuesday. Since the Republican Party has more or less disbanded around here (he, he!), there are several races in which if you don't vote in the Democratic Party primary, you'll have nothing to say. And so even if you're already registered, you might want to think about your party affiliation for this election. I know I did:
The information and form you need are here.

Jack,
Are you going to stick around as a Democrat this time or disaffiliate after the primary?

It depends on whether the next legislature straightens out the mess a previous one made about party members and signatures on petitions for independent candidates.

Says volumes for an open primary, eh? And now in Oregon Independent is a political party. Those of us who previously considered ourselves independent are now officially Nonaffiliated. By the way, have you seen the Internet's schedule of events for the Ds national convention?

I'm happy being a NAWAPP.
I see no reason to go back to the Demos, as it's not likely to make any significant difference, so far as I can see.
Let the Democrats select their crook, and I'll compare it to the other crooks and make my choice of the lesser of evils come November.

I'd love to vote in this primary, because I have an opinion I'd like to express.
But it ain't gonna happen. If the major parties don't want to let members support independent candidates, then they don't get one thin dime of my support, let alone my primary vote.
