You'd catch 'em surfin' at del Mar

Did you know that Kevin Love, the freshman phenom on the U.C.L.A. basketball team and an alum of Lake Oswego High, is the nephew of Beach Boy Mike Love? Well, now you do.

Kevin Love. Great basketball player. Kind of a ***** as a person.

"I don't know how he handled it," Collison said. "It's real tough. He's handled the media, all the hype really well. He's done all you could ask. He's been so consistent, and that's the most important thing. He never takes a day off. One of the reasons we're together the way we are is because of him. He's real enthusiastic. He makes everyone laugh and has blended in well from day one." I had two Nephew's play AAU ball with him, they both love the guy. He is not a **** Person.

The real ***** is Mike Love. He was part of the reason Brian Wilson dropped out of society for more than three decades. He has sued Brian Wilson numerous times over relatively petty issues.

Brian Wilson's dad was a much bigger reason for Brian's dropping out.

Two comments.

1. None, I hope you are talking from personal knowledge because my impression is that Kevin is as ok as you can get for being a big star but his Dad, Stan, is the ***hole here.

2. Now we know all that bs about how Oregon dissed Kevin was so much crap because the kid was being pushed to fullfill his old mans dream of going to UCLA.

I don't have personal experience, but I work and play with a lot of people who know a good deal about sports. The general attitude about Kevin among most of my friends who have commented about it is that his ego is a big negative. I guess if you have that much talent, a big ego is justifiable and almost expected.

But Brandon Roy, for example, proves that it doesn't have to be so.

When Love gets drafted next year and moves up to the NBA, his increased exposure may prove whether he is a decent guy.

I don't know the kid myself but if you watch him play you can see that he doesn't have an ego on the floor. He is the best passer in the Pac10 and maybe one of the best ever at the college level. That is impressive for a young kid.

The other impressive thing about Love is how hard he works. Most kids that age aren't going to be hitting the weight room or the practice gym with his intensity. That kid works pretty damn hard on his game. I think that is impressive for someone so young to be so focused on something. Sure beats the punks I see hanging out on the streets doing nothing but causing problems.
