Just a Jeepster

The O's crack investigative team is playing "Who Had the Pickle?" again today -- this time with Sheriff Bernie and county cars. What next? Probably his library fines.

I think Phil Stanford had the right take on all of this: Bernie is just one loose cog in a runaway political machine. And the O's editorial yesterday. Oh please. Imho, the editorialist has the biggest problem with respecting persons rather than principles. Noelle and the gang of county commissioners Wheeler joined a year ago are just members of the problem gang. Show us some real independent leadership, Ted.

It appears that the Clackamas County Sheriff's people are getting a bigger free ride than Bernie's Band.

Ted's people have a pretty good deal on transportation -- he doesn't talk much about that. Every county employee gets a completely free trimet pass -- whether they use public transportation or not. Nothing comes out of their salary for that -- just out of your tax bill.

Many employees get free parking. And the managers get the free use of county vehicles during the day. (Plus that case last year sometime of the manager who was driving her county car home and to the grocery store because "nobody told her not to"). There's little restriction on whether they run personal errands once they have the car signed out. And the mileage reimbursement for trips in personal cars doesn't seem to be monitored at all.
