Black Jesus

I kiddingly call my congressman Earl the Pearl. He's an accomplished guy, but he can't hold a candle to the Original, who's being honored tonight. The guy had more moves than Ex Lax.

I'm 26 and a huge NBA fan. I feel like I missed out on some hugely entertaining players: Dr. J, Bill Walton, Dave Cowens and of course Earl Monroe (whom I had heard of despite my age). It's a shame the NBA doesn't celebrate its former greats the way baseball and the NFL do.

Hey old timers: is there anyone in today's game who reminds you of Monroe?

The line from "He Got Game" where Denzel Washington tells Ray Allen that they called Monroe "Jesus" because "he was The Truth" cracks me up every time.

Nice to see Bluemanure is still smoking his normal dose.

Black Jesus, indeed! Earl the Pearl is the reason I became 1)an NBA fan, and 2)a NY Knicks fan. Monroe was poetry in motion, magic, a master of illusion.

His basketball was art, it was soul. He's the man!

My condolences to you and your family.

And your brother was a good imitation of "The Pearl"
