Food poisoning at Port function?

An alert reader tells us that his mom is one of 30 people out of a crowd of about 100 who attended a Port of Portland-related event at a well known area eatery last week and have since come down with food poisoning. There hasn't been a peep about it in the mainstream media, as far as I can tell. Is this kind of occurrence so commonplace that it doesn't make the news? The copious amount of print ads that the restaurateurs buy wouldn't have anything to do with the lack of coverage -- would it?

Have any readers got any reliable details about this incident?

It was at a Port of Portland function at McMenamins Edgefield. I understand that state investigators have been interviewing the folks who got sick to determine exactly what they ate, including some members of the Troutdale City Council and city staff.

That's what we heard. Thanks for the confirmation. When you order Terminator, I didn't think they took it so literally...

Well if they ate member of city council and staff, it's a pretty good bet that's what made them sick.

Happy Thanksgiving. And thank you very much. No need to tip me.

Maybe it will make the Food section of the NY Times...

Food poisoning is a terrible thing to have any time, but seems especially so on Thx-givin'.

It might make the Mercury if someone wants to get in touch. NB: We'll want to include graphic descriptions of the food poisoning: "I barfed all night, and couldn't stop pooping." Etcetera. But if they're cool with that, then why not give us a call. 503 294 0840.

It might make the Oregonian if someone would ever give us a call. SDuin 503 221 8150

What is the name of Troutdale's local paper?

I don't know if Troutdale has its own, but the "far east" side of Portland has something called the Mid-County Memo.

No local paper in Troutdale. The Gresham Outlook covers Gresham/Troutdale/Fairview/Wood Village.

Shades of Ma Anand Sheela.

McMenamin's food is pretty nasty anyway and the service slow. You'd think a city that blows so much money could spend a little more $$ on a port of Portland function.

Does anyone know anymore about this? Did they determine what food or pathogen caused the illnesses?
