Tek's being sold
This is a serious story. An important local company is about to get swallowed up by a big outfit back east. Not the best economic news the area has ever received.

In Danaher's defense, they seem to leave things alone. I know some people who work for Fluke and they left them alone plus they own Sears Craftsmen tools.
On the flip side, I am sure they will look for cost savings which means all the production will probably be Chinese.
It sure doesnt seem like a glamour portfolio though.

Freightliner also looks poised to leave Portland soon. They keep moving jobs to North Carolina and the City leaders have not been very interested in keeping them here.

Freightliner shows how it often goes. The back-east sharks do keep a lot of white collar staff in Portland, but not forever. Sooner or later high-priced jobs (and other white collar work) start drifting back to the home office in Minneapolis, or Cincinnati, or Salt Lake City, or wherever.

Danaher (stock symbol DHR) is an interesting company. It is owned by a pair of brothers who are very rich and very reclusive. DHR is very focused on making money. Stockholders love it since it makes about 20% return a year but employees seem to hate the place. Check out some press and news on DHR at Google or Yahoo. I'm sure that some of my old friends at Tek are going to be going thru the wringer over the next few years.
