Beavers, Beavers, fighters through and through

Real life had me in its grasp yesterday afternoon and last night, and I regret to say I didn't see the Beavers beat Cal, ranked second in the nation, in football. Awesome! That kicker guy (one of my favorite athletes anywhere) was in on it, I bet.

What an unpredictable league this year. First Stanford over USC, and now this.

I didn't get to see any of it either, but I did scream myself hoarse listening to the call on the radio. The last two minutes about gave me a heart attack. Bring on The Cardinal!

I missed that game too - but DID SEE KENTUCKY (Coached by rich Brooks) beat LSU in triple overtime. What a thrilling game!
Maybe just as important - both the No.1 and No. 2 college football teams were knocked off.

I watched every second. "That kicker guy" (Alexis Serna)was definitely in on it. He hit a 52 yard FG to put the Beavs within a point just before the half (and it would have been good from 72 yards) and he punted almost flawlessly the whole game. Very entertaining game that went down to the wire.

What do you mean unpredictable? Not if you're a Cougar fan. (Long sigh).

So how many Innings did the Beaver game go into anyway Jack? I've always found real life far more entertainign than watching industrial sports. I don't buy into the whole scam, and view it as a watse of time that could be spent productively, as opposed to caring deeply about something that means absolutely nothing whatsoever, and causes far too many people to spend too much time on their asses. And none of this even begins to address how college sports detract from what should be, but too often is not, the primary mission of colleges and Universities.

Plus, when the "Big Game" is on I can go to Home Depot, GI Joes and Costco and enjoy the relative lack of crowds!

Thank you, Mr. Scrooge.

Having been an OSU student in the 1980's when all we could hope for was that one great upset a year, this was reminiscent to that.

I had a twinge of sadness for Cal's freshman QB, Kevin Riley. He is a Beaverton High beaver alumni, as am I. I have faith that his error at game’s end will be the learning experience that leads him to huge success the way the great Alexis Serna’s missed three kicks during the game against LSU did for him.

Go Beavs!

Yes Simon, the important things in life are most certainly found and purchased at Home Depot, GI Joes and Costco.

Sorry about giving an opinion, but there seems to be too many individuals like Simon who like to give opinions about what is important in life without thinking.

Seems to me that Simon has a point: if people cared half as much about civic life as they do about football, I think we'd be better off over all. That said, I saw 3 Beavers games this year in Corvallis and even purchased a hat; I am beginning to understand the lure; team spirit is great; problems arise when it seems to translate directly into partisan politics, however.
