Last leg of a cheap cross-country road trip
And a memorable one -- in eastern Oregon.
Then a drive up the coast -- the same week that my family and I were there. Great video here.

New Yawkers better know West Nile virus is at the Oregon-Idaho border, there are cougars and mountain lions crouching near the highways if your car breaks down, cattle herds crossing block the highways and the drover cowboys wear side-arms and carry lassoes and they don't call strangers 'pardner.' Think: City Slicker meets Bates Hotel.
Oregon: Visit, but don't stay. On second thought, better not even visit. The stage coach only comes along once a week. I hear California is nice this time of year, and it's got civilized accommodations and telephones and ocean beaches and bronze-tanned surfers.
