Important notice

I don't normally bore readers of this blog with any of the dozens of Internal Revenue Service rulings and announcements that I encounter every year in my work. But this one may be of interest to a broad cross-section of the public.

I'm surprised this sort of arcana ad infinitum doesn't drive you to drink - or worse. (I'm thinking of Lloyd Bridges in the "Airplane" movies.)

It doesn't, does it?

Thankfully knowing who to contact for clarification about the ruling put it into perspective...

The fact that I was only tuned into the joke after the second Devil comment is truly a testiment to the IRS.

Example 2 is my favorite

"A service provider will be deemed to have experienced a separation from life if
he or she experiences a termination of life."

Pretty long winded and assinine way to say the taxpayer died.

Even the Infernal Revenue Service needs its damned guidelines.

"...if the period ofsuch leave does not exceed ten minutes, or if longer, so long as the individual retains a right to regain life and/or reanimation under an applicable contract (with the devil or
otherwise) or other arrangement."

Now there is a contract to behold!

So is Michael Moore entitled to immediate redemption of all his qualified plans? Because I'm pretty sure he's brain dead.

Based on his body weight, he might even merit a 3X payout.

Hijack!

I was unsure that it was a joke until the Heaven can Wait- Deal with God clause. Too funny.

I refuse to acknowledge my errors, ommissions, oversights and general stupidity...

I stand by my comment.

...or near it

...if no one's looking, that is

ooooh, the shame.

I liked the 10 mintues limit. They must have one of those lights-out timers on the life support set to 10 mint and 2 seconds.

I'm glad everyone likes it so much. I thought we could all use a laugh at the 409A ridiculousness. :-)
