How to jeopardize your job

When a guy like Larry Craig goes up in smoke, you jump right in and offer to take over his stall (figuratively, of course). Oh, how those kids on the Blue will be screeching today!

A class guy like Gordito doesn't frequent airport mens' rooms -- he has the tricks come to his office and services them there.

Like we have some void of western Senators that are politically friendly to farmers and ranchers. Bennet and Hatch could adequately fill this role, given their rotten voting records, or just about every other Senator in the Mountain Time zone. So why does Gordon "opportunity calling" Smith suddenly feel he needs to step into the role?

If nothing else Smith is ever the political opportunist, something to remember whenever one is baffled about why he does this or says that. His recent positions play well for a Democrat, or for any politico running for office in Oregon, but at the moment he's a Republican facing a primary. He's taking actions designed to help shore up his base lest he be challenged from the right.

Farmers, timber interests, and the offshore banking industry. Opportunist extraordinare. Bring him back to Pendleton, they need him there. Once defeated, he can lobby for the farm industry and launder his windfall through his banking buddies. Let's give Gordo this opportunity. eh?

Screech! Screech!

My favorite part about all this? It's basically Gordon admitting that he's been a crappy Senator for rural Oregon all this time. Which, for anyone paying attention to the county payments issue, has been so very true.

p.s. Better stop calling us "kids". Alworth's hitting 40 this month, and he might have to beat you with his walker.
