Here's an alternative to the Portland gas tax

The problem, of course, is that with guys like Sam the Tram and "Condo" Chris Smith running things, you'll probably get both the gas tax and this.

They've started doing this in England. As the father of a small child it sounds scary as hell but I hear that it works. I need to do more research, but I guess it reminds drivers that they are sharing the space and in control of several tons of metal.

yeah, this actually is nothing new. and--it works. imagine that.

Why stop with removing traffic stops? Remove government barriers in all aspects. Reinstitute common law, and let people work out their interactions amongst themselves. Guess you still need a Matt Dylan or Dillion or two, ala "Gunsmoke."

I'm not sure this would work in Portland. People would come to an intersection and insist the other driver go first. No one would get anywhere.

Finger waving would be a logical next evolutionary step, of course bicyclists already have this perfected.
