Weeded out

That Washougal guy who's been terrorizing everyone in the 'Couv with his outrageously aggressive driving of his big blue pickup? Looks like he'll have some extra time on his hands for the driver's ed classes. He just lost his job over it. Turns out he's a Portland native and a major pot head. Justice is sweet sometimes.

I applaud Wafer Tech for firing this guy -- and I wish our public entities would take a lesson from this company.

We've got child molesting teachers who get put on paid administrative leave ad infinitum.

Thanks unions.

He was fired because he had drugs on the premises. Since the police saw him leave work, and followed him, they knew the drugs were in the vehicle when it was in the parking lot. There was no need to wait for an investigation since he'd already admitted the pot was his. Therefore he was in violation of company policy and was fired.

However, in other cases you have to wait for the investigation to continue before you can fire someone. Sometimes the charges come out to be false. And there's that whole innocent until proven guilty thing.

The guy in this story wasn't fired because of charges against him. He was fired for having drugs on the premises.

And no, I'm not a member of a union, nor is anyone in my family. I've never been a member of a union. So don't start the "you're just saying that to protect your job" stuff that comes up every time I say something in response to union bashing.

Good points Jenni, however do public employees have to pay back the suspension pay if they are found guilty?

And I can provide tons of links about teachers who confessed to crimes but were still suspended with pay.

If he worked for MultCo's community corrections, he would be eligible for a disability retirement.

If he was a cop (in many jurisdictions), professional courtesy would have kicked in.

If he were a Kennedy, the Capitol Police would have given him a ride home.

I love this guy: "You broke my life" he whines to the newspaper. Yeah, dork, it's everybody else's fault. People just reported your reckless driving because they were out to get you.

Sounds like he's been smoking a lot more than pot, if you ask me.
