Stop the presses
A Portland police officer is being held accountable for his actions in killing someone. It's the guy who shot Squeaky nearly a year and a half ago, and the mayor is recommending that he be given the ax. Maxine Bernstein of the O has the lowdown here.
The mayor's stock just went way up in my book.

Good. I noticed that the fireman that gave the guy a severe kicking is not even getting a slap on the wrist.

To give him his credit, James Pitkin at the WWeek got it first.

It will be interesting to see if Potter can make it stick.
Arbitration, appeals, courts.
But I do give Potter some credit.
More guts and integrity than Guisto.
But that is not a tough standard to exceed.

I can't believe it -- a Portland police officer held accountable for deadly force? Seriously amazing, considering this town's history. I have to agree, the mayor's got some major points from me on this point.

I like how Potter went out of his way to make the point that the guy is not getting fired for shooting his firearm, but rather for the decisions he made that put him into the position where he was forced to use his weapon. And then the union, showing the tone deafness that is its calling card, issued a statement talking about how the cop was totally justified in firing his weapon. Give them a D- for reading comprehension.

Sounds similar to what he did with Foxworth. Wasn't the official story there that he was being demoted not because of the affair or the salacious e-mails, but for gossiping about an ongoing internal investigation?
Taking action for lesser offenses, while ignoring what did the real damage to the city and the public, is an interesting tactic. You wonder whether it will hold up in arbitration or court.

I don't know about that. There are still charges within the bureau, I think. Also, he was moved to a desk job, if you call that "punishment."

Three Card Monte is an interesting spectator sport. It also speaks volumes about the operator.

Let's make this really simple, shall we?
Just get rid of the lame loophole, er, excuse, that not only the cops here in The People's Republik of Portland use, but all cops use nation wide, which is the lame a** excuse (*sounding like a zombie with monotone voice)
"I was in fear of my life".
Blabbity, Blabbity, BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!
Period. End of story.
