Finally
Amazingly, after 15 months, someone in the Portland mainstream media has taken an interest in a case that has always bugged me: the shooting death of Dennis "Squeaky" Young at the hand of Portland Police Lieutenant Jeff Kaer on Jan. 4, 2006. Willamette Week's cover story this week is all over that incident. Bravo.

I'm not sure I agree with the story's statement that Keller backed up Kaer's story. In a Maxine Bernstein story about a year ago, we learned that "[t]he other officer on the scene didn't think [Young's car] was going to hit him, and he was unsure where Kaer was standing when the shots were fired. 'From my position, I didn't feel that I was going to get hit by the car,' Keller said. 'My mind was starting to think, you know, to back up, get out of the street.'"
