It was Robinson that my dad talked about when I was a kid... and then he made it a point to talk about the Negro League players who got some long overdue recognition. Not enough of them unfortunately.

Robinson gave a lot of the guys of my generation a model and a challenge. There seemed to be a lot of those folks around and visible at that time. Grambling Coach Eddie Robinson also comes to mind. There was attention paid to grace. Celebrating that grace isn't part of the system these days... not edgy enough.
