Cockroaches trapped
It's been a while since we let out a "Lock 'em up and throw away the key." But these people need to do time and be forced to pay big-time restitution. Then get treatment for their serious mental illness.

You'll get no argument from me that these creeps need to do some time behind bars. Serious time for serious crimes. This is crime that is ugly, nasty, and stupid, and I'd love to catch all the cockroaches --a perfect name for them-- that crap all over our city.
It breaks my heart, some days, to drive through my neighborhood and see freshly painted buildings defaced. It seems to me a few poster children, behind bars, would send a message that this isn't OK, or creative, or artistic...but a serious crime against our communities.

This is what happens when you cancel the midnight basketball program.

Really? Getting rid of midnight basketball means vandalism is ok now?
Don't shut down the libraries, that'll be a license to rape and murder!

Again - and for no reason - you insult people with mental illness.

Caning would be good.

I agree that caning would be an effective deterrent for many lesser crimes - registering at Bernie's jail, and then walking immediately out the front door doesn't seem to be working.

I sure wish the use of wooden stocks wasn't considered cruel and unusual punishment. Young people are so into their 'image' and impressing their friends that I think public humiliation would probably have more of an effect on them than jail time. Pioneer Courthouse Square would be a perfect location.

Actually I'm thinking of pillories, not stocks.

People who commit vandalism are mentally ill. And this is the last time I want to hear from you about it.

This thread is really ugly and scary. And Jason is right - you don't give a reason, you just repeat your exaggerated remarks as if that will make it more true.
Pretty out of line, in contrast to most of the content on this site, which is actually informative and enjoyable.

Huh? Whats the beef here? That he said they were mentally ill? Lemme ask ya...how else would you describe their actions?
Hell, the actions of any criminal. Even killers. They are all mentally ill. How else would you describe such anti-social behavior? They have a bad hair day?

I read an article in Wired magazine that described graffiti as part of our new "Hip Hop Culture", and how it should all be embraced, because its redefining society. What a load of crap.
