Just like a-ringin' a bell
Happy 80th birthday to Chuck Berry, whose guitar style changed music history. A friend of mine used to say that there were only three guitar innovators in the rock era: Berry, B.B. King, and Jimi Hendrix. To him, everything else was derivative.
Anyway, Chuck is way up there in the R 'n' R pantheon -- in the Top 10 of all time. Hope he's having a good day, maybe even doing a little duck walk when the cake comes out. Later on maybe somebody will play with his ding-a-ling.

I agree with my friend, but I would add Stevie Ray to the list and make it four. Everything else is a copy.

I think Stevie Ray would be the first to tell you he was channeling Robert Johnson through Hendrix.
I'll never forget the first time I saw SRV (opening for Robert Cray...it took Cray over an hour to come out afterward) or the day he died. He was a great one.

You couldn't follow Stevie. Cray and Clapton would stand in the wings and try to believe their eyes and ears.

How about Duane Allman? And lets not forget Alvin Lee and Jerry. I couldnt agree that any of these guys were "derivitive." Ageed on SRV.

I think my buddy would say "That's all B.B."
And who's "Jerrry"?
(Only kidding.)
