Lawyers on welfare

Down in California you can get "affordable housing" assistance even if you make "only" $160,000 a year.

From the Article: The City Council here had already created a class of affordable housing several years ago for people making up to 200% of the median income. Last week, they agreed to tailor the Los Portales project for people making up to 240%, or nearly $160,000. (To keep these affordable condos affordable, buyers would be subject to price controls on resale that would restrict any price increase to about 2% a year.)
JK: I have seen some PDC suggestion of Portland subsidizing up to 120% of median income. But, unlike real income, the threshold is adjusted for family size, so a family of four can make a lot more and still qualify.

Portland is literally taking money from the poor to subsidize higher income families. This is just so sick that it is beyond words. Any comments on this Randy, Sam, Eric, Dan and Tom? How do you possibly justify taking money from the poor and giving it to higher income people? (Is it just to make Homer's hole more politically acceptable?)

Thanks
JK

Kinda sad...although prices in CA are just plain silly. I have family in the Bay Area. My dad has a 750 sq ft condo (1 bdrm) in Fremont that he paid $100k for 15 years ago. Its worth about $450k now. And the median for family-size homes is in the $800k region. Higher in San Fran.

Im sure Portland will be there soon.

I read that article the other day -- which came a day after there was an article in the Bend Bulletin profiling newcomers in the region (take a wild guess where the vast majority originated)... which came a day after another article in the BB reporting the median sale price in July was $354k. That particular article began with a description of a couple who had just lowered the asking price of a 712sq.ft. house to $349k.

Yes, just give us a few years and we too will have $499k "affordable housing" - just not in the South Waterfront district.
