Echo in here?

This is happening way too often.

I agree. I saw over on bikeportland though that they caught a guy on the westside who had hit and run on a bike through anonymous tips. I think people are opening their eyes a little when it comes to stuff like this and taking note. One can dream. Now I have to go lock my bike up or WW will steal it.

It's the kid aspect of this that really bothers me. My 10 and 13 year old boys ride their bikes a lot (and responsibly and safely), but there's nothing a kid on a bike can do to protect against a boneheaded driver. Glad this boy got away with just a scraped knee; bikes can be replaced more easily than bodies/brains.

Booked and released. Is that the human version of 'catch and release'?

How long does it take to get out of the country?

The outrageous part of the perps' conduct here is that they evidently didn't know or care whether they were dragging the boy along with the bike under their car. We see a lot of adverse comment about cyclists -- see for example today's Trib article about members of the Multnomah Club (or at least wearers or the club cycling jersey). I would not defend the conduct described. But the stakes are higher when a car is being driven without appropriate care. One could wish for higher standards of competence and judgment as a condition of the right to drive. Failing that, it's good to see that a suspect was identified and arrested in the hit-and-run case of the doctor, mother of triplets, out near Newberg last week.
