More on the Dagoba Chocolate lead recall

Here's what it said yesterday, and still says today, further down the page:

Q: Are other Dagoba products affected by this recall?

A: No. We have fully tested all Dagoba products and have determined that all other Dagoba products are safe and within the FDA's guidelines for lead.

Uh huh.

UPDATE, 4/8, 3:32 a.m.: Interesting -- sometime this evening they rewrote that last Q and A to read as follows:

Q: Are other Dagoba products besides Eclipse 87%, Los Rios 68% and Prima Materia 100% affected by this recall?

A: No. We have fully tested all Dagoba products and have determined that all other Dagoba products are safe and within the FDA's guidelines for lead.

Stay tuned.

There was a CSI about this once, A gambler that ate too much chocolate, they said in Africa they still used old cars with leaded gas that suplimented the lead posioning in his leg from an old mafia slug and I can't remember what chemical it was that the waitress put in the gamblers drink but interacted with the lead in his blood stream to cause a heart incident for him to die.

You might want to rent that episode, and watch it at your next big card (note I could not use the P word and get posted) game. I think the title of the episode was "Death by chocolate" it was the punch line at the end anyway.

Jack:

Not to diminish the personal harm you MAY have suffered, or understate the emotional toll of learning you ingested lead while eating your favorite chocolate...BUT Get a blood test already! You have to find out to put your mind at ease.

Clearly, Dagoba is a small company with minimal crisis communications or management skills.

I'm amazed they even have testing protocols in place for a "natural" product like chocolate.

With most FDA or USDA "allowable" limits, you would probably have to eat 50 pounds of their chocolate before it actually harmed you.

All I want right now is their test results.

I have noticed that dagoba has removed all refrences from their website to their number one marketing statement that has propelled them forward over these last few years.

In every PR piece they have ever done they describe themselves as practicing the "Art of Alchemy". The owners email is alchemist@dagoba.com

Isnt alchemy the process of turning lead into gold?
