Out on a late afternoon errand, I saw a couple of snowflakes.

We came out of the Fox Tower Regal Cinema at about 4:30 today after seeing "TransAmerica" [a great movie, by the way; Felicity Huffman deserves her Oscar nomination and perhaps the trophy itself...but we digress] and there, lo and behold, snowflakes in downtown Portland in mid-February! Funny how something so simple, and so unexpected, would bring out the inner-child of every downtown denizen at the moment. Odd how the weather can achieve so much kindness toward one another in ways that not much else does.
The City of Roses with a blog and a kitten,
Reading the comments of those who have written,
Forgetting the tram, the mall and the schools,
I’m on the blog that Jack alone rules.
Writing a poem without making the cheap shots,
Keeping a vow to think only the good thoughts,
Practically wiping the negative out
I don’t know what we’ll all talk about.
When the blog bites
And the words sting
When the news is bad
I simply remember Jack’s pulling the strings
And then I don’t feel I've been had.

Snowflakes were falling out Farmington way, too. My husband is praying for a snow day (as if federal holidays aren't enough for him)!
Having an AWD vehicle is definitely nice.

Ode to Nice Week
There once was a blogger named Jack
Who decided his mood was too black
To counter this mood
He banned all the rude
To comment the price
Was to be only nice
He chose a sweet little kitten to replace
The imposing dread-locked billboard face
Jack’s legions known for their sharp tongue wit
Gushed love not war like an amorous twit
So nice they were in all their comment
So sweet we feared some might vomit
At least when this nice week does pass
We can skip confession on way to mass

Jack Bog repressed his blog,
a noble attempt at kinder,
his viewers sat puzzled,
then joined in the nuzzle,
cuz everyone needs a reminder.
