That which we call cheese food

Ace blogger Chris Snethen is looking for a new name for his blog. He's decided that "Undecided Resident" has got to go, and let me give an amen to that, my brutha. He's solicited suggestions for a new blog title.

Now, if his hosts at OregonLive(ForTwoWeeksThenDead) insist that the name make reference to the blogger's location, I'd go with something like "Couv Operator," since Chris is, you know, living up there and all. But why not go for domination of the entire OregonLive realm -- something like "Velveetaland" or "The Big Cheese"? Perhaps "No Comment" would be descriptive of that whole group.

Anyway, if you've got an idea for the guy, please, as the kids say, give it up here.

he needs to get off the oregon live thing - what a pain - it wouldn't take my e-mail message, or at least it acted like it wouldn't. I hate re-typing something just because the site is too stupid to register input.

^ Agreed, www.advance.net (which the O uses) is the worst newspaper website contractor ever. I'm sure it's typical Oregon: somebody with no technology expertise made the decision, purchasing a product that was out of date before it was even installed, and paying six times what it was worth, not to mention the expensive support contract when it failed. I bet this describes 70% of corporate internet and network technology users in this state. That's what happens when most of your manager class attends college in Corvallis and Eugene, or worse.

Most (if not all) of the major decisions about the Advance web sites are made at its corporate headquarters in New Jersey. The OregonLive folks have little control over structural matters.

Right, but the point is they (the O) bought it! Who buys a product without test driving it and knowing all of its features and functions? Oh...right...most of the American electorate when shopping for a king.

Anyone who would have browsed the site of a newspaper in another city, even in late 90s-early 2000s, would had to have known that better stuff was out there.

You don't get it. Advance also owns The Oregonian. The O answers to the same Advance bigwigs as OregonLive does. They're all subsidiaries of the same mega-company. Believe me, no one in Oregon voluntarily bought that package.

It's no use arguing any of that. My dad still thinks I write for The Oregonian and I'm next in line for Steve Duin's gig. In the meantime, Kevin and The Velvettes are doing their best with what they have. I'm proud to be a small part of it.

Couv Operator, by the way, is pure genius.

Queso Couv, if you want to work some cheese in ... or Couv Queso.
