Here's to both my grandfathers who fought in WWI and WWII; here's to my father who was drafted during Korea; here's to my friends, teachers, and coworkers who fought in Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Your bravery is honored.

Yes, and thanks to my Dad who still carries shrapnel earned in the Battle of the Bulge.
But...someone mentioned Buffy-Sainte Marie a few posts back. Her hauting "Universal Soldier" has been playing on and off in my head ever since.
Honor their courage and sacrifice, yes. But look at the list of wars, and, to quote the song: "this is not the way to put an end to war."

Agreed. Thanks to my dad who fought in Vietnam - but no thanks to the US Government for ruining his and many others' lives in needless wars.

While many kids could brag about their fathers serving in World War 2, I was always proud to say that BOTH my parents had served overseas in France during the war. My Mom, who died this year, was in the American Red Cross. My parents didn’t meet in Europe. They met later when they were stationed in Guam and Saipan. The Greatest Generation and it’s not even close.
