On the road

We're blogging from an undisclosed location tonight. Haven't done that in a while. Here are your hints -- don't click on the links until you've guessed where we are:

1. The baby was asleep.

2. New Orleans looked fine from above.

We'll be back in Portlandia late Monday.

UPDATE, 10/24. 11:26 p.m.: Sorry if that first link hangs you up. You can't go back from it (at least not in Internet Explorer) without triple-clicking the back button really quickly. I thought it was just the lame hotel computer I was on last night causing the problem, but I see now that the page in question gets you in its grip and won't easily let go.

Jack,

It is good to hear from you we were all concerned something was a miss that you missed comment on your [Rim Shot]

http://www.oregonlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/front_page/112997733262400.xml?oregonian?fpfp&coll=7

your loyal following figured either you were dead, totally disillusioned and had dropped out, or as we find with this entry, mentally and physicaly in tact just out of town on business.

Your former radio cohosts gave PDC the what for yesterday on their talk show. Mentioning the Holman building sale at a much lower price than the purchase price, and mirrored your comments on the state of Portland's Priviledged.

Have a safe trip.

Continuing the PDC riff... today's Oregonian gave me a much-needed laugh. The October public-meetings notice from the PDC is on the *obituary* page. (chuckle) (chortle)

Following up on the aerial tram [rimshot] idea above. Over on Sam Adams' blog, there's been a discussion about the Burnside-Couch couplet. When the debate got a little heated, one of the commish's staffers came in and snottily asked "what would you do with $50 million that *had* to be spent on a transportation project?" So now between the $50 million lying fallow waiting to be spent and the $40 million the city has dedicated to the tram [rrrrrrimshot], there's $90 million that could be dedicated to building a new Sellwood Bridge or maybe fixing the traffic pattern at the west end of the Ross Island bridge, eliminating the excuse for the tram altogether. Or how about using it to seed a new Columbia Bridge? $90 million. Wow.

Used to live in San Diego...more specifically Ocean Beach. Next time you are visiting, check out a great restaurant in OB called "Quigs"...great seafood and a lovely view of the ocean and the pier.
