Computers are better at confirming or rejecting whether one's arguments are rational or irrational. Without setting up a little matrix, the odds of obtaining valid confirmation of the rationality of some little project are greater from computers than from humans, and it can be nearly instantaneous. Or, at least garbage-in the leads to garbage-out is more like to be instantly viewed as garbage rather than reason; on computers, of course, but not necessarily so with humans. Thus it is more enjoyable to play with computers; provided your arguments are rational.
Little pats on the back are good now and then; even if the patter is an inanimate object (or a proxy for purely rational reasoning). It is perhaps the inverse of getting a paternalistic pat; which engenders revulsion or some such other emotion.
Suppose Randy gave you a pat on the back instead? Arrgh.
