I'll bet a reader can tell me

I thought we were getting rid of "Sports Action," the Oregon "lottery's" pro football sports book "game," as a way of trying to attract the NCAA tournament to Portlandia. And yet I still see it in the paper. Those of you who with the stomach to follow what's going on in Salem, what happened?

From the Portland Business Alliance web site:

"House Bill 3066 will end the Sports Action lottery game in the state on July 1, 2007, clearing a path for Oregon to host NCAA athletic tournaments, including the national collegiate basketball tournament. State revenues generated by the Sports Action lottery for Higher Education will be recovered by extending other lottery games. The Alliance assisted the Oregon Restaurant Association and the Oregon Sports Authority in getting this bill passed. This effort will strengthen the region's tourism economy and greatly benefit the hospitality industry. Oregon was one of the few states that could not host NCAA events."

I assume Ted signed it?

HB 3066 has to do with parenting time not the lottery.

It's HB 3466 signed into law on August 29th. Here's the O's take on it: http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/1123322471261030.xml&coll=7

During football season, my 78 year old mother and I match wits with our four game, two buck tickets on Sports Action. Occasionally we win all four and collect our $20.00 payout. How does this pro football lottery contest detract from collegiate athletics?? (can ya hep me??)

While this will just be one less shared activity for us, those who wish to continue will simply find a bookie in Vegas. Thanks NCAA!
