Let's sing this one together
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
words and music by Woody Guthrie
Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!
Chorus
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Uh, I thought just for a minute (or day) we were supposed to sing one together. Works for me. You have a lot of sweet or thoughtful posts most of us never comment on, Mr. Bog. That doesn't mean they are not noted.

We let Woody get involved last year.

So we are singing about Canada, Miquelon, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, et al.?

Actually, they are all part of America. Maybe we ought to be big of heart today, and include them. Show them how much we love their vegetables.

. . . FROM SEA TO SHINING SEEEEEEEEEEEEA!
Yes. I did sing.
Is Hawaii in that picture? It doesn't appear to be.

No, but that last link (the second "shining sea") is to a photo of Barking Sands, on Kauai -- the westernmost public beach in the 50 states. I've been blessed to be in that surf twice so far in my lifetime. Up to my knees only, though -- it's rough!
