Dust 'em off

One great thing about Christmas posts is that they're like Christmas decorations. You can pull them out year after year, and they're still good. In fact, the older they get, the better. You mix in a few new ones, but you can't be shy about hanging up the proven performers. Like this one. Or this.

Once upon a time, when I was still living at home back east, my Dad and I would go to, say, K-Mart every year and find what he termed the "refugee" ornaments. Meaning, for example, an ornament of a kid riding a stick-horse -- except the stick-horse is driven right through his chest.

We had (and I assume he still has) an entire collection of such ornaments, purchased specifically under the assumption that no one else would ever buy them. It was like our very own Island of Misfit Toys.

We have a stuffed "Mr. Hankey," the "Christmas poo" from the South Park cartoon show. The kids love it as much as we parents do.

My god, it's beautiful.
I'm not sure I could take it down with the tree.

Was that ornament issued by the IRS? Regardless, whoever designed it had an excellent sense of humor

It was actually issued by the Treasury Historical Society (or some such organization) to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the federal income tax. Dave Barry wrote about it, which sent demand through the roof. I had to wait months to get mine, but it was worth waiting for.
