Practically indispensable
The Sunday Oregonian is a real money saver. With a pair of scissors, you can clip and save a bundle at your local retailers.
Take today's edition, for example. Now, rather than running out to buy ipecac to keep in your medicine cabinet, you can just clip this and keep it handy for the next time you need to induce vomiting.

I've been waiting all morning for you to react to this, heh.

I'm afraid that our next mayor, either Potter of Francesconi, will make us all look back fondly on the Katz years.

I guess it's possible, Tim. I once thought we'd never have a dumber President than George H.W. Bush.

I like Vera fine. Even though the only politician I ever gave money to was Earl Blumenauer is his (1990, was it?) run for mayor, and I couldn't even wake up to vote for him for State Rep anymore.
I had no idea what damage she would do to the city. I think she ruined it, though I guess as Mr. Gragg says she had help.

I think Katz has done a fantastic job. Granted she focused a little too much on development and the west side, but at least she did something.
But obviously if you don't like the Streetcar, or the Pearl District, then you are going to hate the direction Portland is taking. Whatever... ..somehow I don't complaining regularly in a blog is going to change anything.

Justin said, "but at least she did something." My goodness, so did Saddam Hussein, though I am not comparing Katz and that Monster. Anyway, good riddance!

boy, what a negative way to start out a monday. Jack, you may want to institute another "positive" day as it seems things are getting too negative lately.
Vera. hmmm, not sure what to say about here other than she lost a lot of weight in the past 10 years. i remember hating her when we lived in NW portland in the 90's. she was instrumental in not allowing certain types of bars in the area, but allowing others. we, as young 20-somethings- thought that she was just trying to protect her neighborhood instead of making decisions for Portland.
i love portland, have lived here all my life and think the city IS going in the right direction. i live in NoPo and have seen dramatic improvements in just the past 4 years. when i moved in, it was shootings every night. now? well, there was some random shooting last summer, but not much. did Vera help here? not sure. I think more credit should go to the community police officers in North Precinct who actually listen to the neighbors.
downtown revitalization (i.e. old town), interstate max, eastbank esplanade, the Pearl, N. Mississippi development - are these Vera's babies? or a collective accomplishment of Portland government and METRO over the past 10 years. yes, she's the mayor, but they weren't all her ideas.
I look forward to Mayor Potter's plans for Portland. in 10 years, maybe we'll be having this same discussion.

I have not problem with Potter, except in person he strikes you like old tired spent listless man, little to no energy left. How is going to survive next 5 years in this job? 10? I don't see it.
