Quiz

Who is the author of this quotation?

I have to write to be happy whether I get paid for it or not. But it is a hell of a disease to be born with. I like to do it. Which is even worse. That makes it from a disease into a vice. Then I want to do it better than anybody has ever done it which makes it into an obsession. An obsession is terrible.

A. Glenn Reynolds.

B. Ernest Hemingway.

C. Isaac Laquedem.

D. Jean Auel.

E. Stephen King.

Even without Googling it -- it's clearly Hemingway. Only an obsessed man could write like him.

I'm reasonably sure it's not (c).

I'm not a Stephen King fan, but he's my guess, because I know he wrote a book on writing. (In fact, isn't it called "On Writing?")

I'm guessing it's Hemingway.

Without even using Google I could tell it was Hemingway. An obsessive man writing about a writing obsession.

Well sure, anyone can do a Google search and find the answer! Where's the fun in that? That reminds me of Ghost World, when that jerk in the wheelchair gets a free coffee every day because he looks up the trivia questions on his laptop.

I always liked the Ring Lardner quote about writing- "writing is easy...I just sit down at the typewriter and open a few veins".
