Class act

Portland Trail Blazer big man Theo Ratliff sent Mayor Katz a dozen roses to wish her well with her health challenges.

That's the nicest gesture a player on that team has made in many a moon.

In the time Theo played here for the Sixers, he was consistently doing generous and helpful things for the city. He became a fan favorite, and there was nearly a rebellion when they traded him to Atlanta. He still gets a huge ovation when he comes to town. Something that rarely happens in Philly, I might add. I guess you'd call him a "good deed doer". We still want him back, as we haven't had a big man nearly as effective since he left. Hey, I know, How about Derrick Coleman for Theo Ratliff.
What till next year

This type of thing is more common that is reported in the Oregonian, which usually only cares when a Blazer is arrested, might be arrested or happens to walking down the street when someone else is arrested.

Decent acts by pro athletes almost never make news, which is why I get tired of the constant bashing that the Trailblazers take by almost everyone in Portland.

So, anyway, thanks for being fair by passing along the good news as well as the bad

What a kind thing to do! Thanks, Jack, for passing this on.

I agree with Steve. This is a nice gesture by Ratliff but Blazer players often do nice things that do not make the news. Even the despised Rasheed Wallace did many good things for the Portland community and I would bet he preferred not being noticed for it.

Very nice!
