Portland's River/Pearl District is supposed to be the hot, hip, happening place to live these days. I dunno -- down there you get neighbors like this and this, and you're liable to stumble across something like this on your morning walk.

Off-topic (Paul Allen): Rumor is he is dumping TechTV. 100% of it. Are the Blazers next?
Jack, a few quibbles. Cook lived in "the Yards" a low income housing project, not the River district condos that you might imagine as it is physically segragated by Union Station and cyclone fencing from the Pearl and hip River areas.
The floating body was found on the EAST side of the river, not the west, putting him the "Central Eastide Industrial Area".
As for Smolka...eh, I'll give you that one. But someday check out the Fraud and theft convictions for people in the LC/Dunthorpe area.
You're getting a little deranged in your anti-anything-Homer-Williams-is-involved-with crusade. Homer may be a thief, and the Pearl District may be heavily subsidized, but on the face of it it's a nice place, and it's probably better a few thousand Portlanders are living there instead of in Sherwood or outer Gresham or Cornelius.
They're living there instead of NW 21st and Johnson. And they're shopping there instead of at SW Fifth and Morrison. There are no new jobs here -- no big influx of wage earners. We're killing off other inner neighborhoods, not preventing sprawl.

I don't mean to make light of a horrible situation, but that Cook guy isn't the smartest criminal in history, is he?

NW 21st & Johnson? Looks to me like the Pearl inhabitants are there instead of somewhere in Marin.
