Another NBA big man driving around high in his Escalade in the middle of the night. No loaded guns in the front seat this time, though. Well, sort of.

Posted by: Dave J. at July 2, 2006 08:07 AMExcuse me, but I'm not familiar with high-end SUVs. Do they come out of the factory with a DVD player mounted in the dashboard? If so, why? I'm hoping that this "innovation" was post-market, because there is no reason on this earth to have one mounted where it could distract the driver (porn or not). This kind of crap, like using a cellphone whilst driving, should be illegal...for just the reason demonstrated.

Yeah? He did something dumber than trying to carry an ounce of cannabis, wrapped in aluminum foil, through airport security? Or smoking a doobie while driving a bright yellow Hummer at excessive speeds on Washington freeways?

Well, while playing for the Utah Jazz he pulled two motorists over (two separate times) using a false police badge and pretended to be a member of the Salt Lake City Police Dept. In my book, that's dumber than anything Damon ever did.

Definitely team captain material for the Jail Blazers. Wonder why the Minny P.D. gave him the Kennedy treatment. Must be fans.
Posted by: Mister T at July 2, 2006 06:21 PMGodfry, no SUVs have OEM dashboard video players. That would never get past the gaggle of in-house counsel, even if it were legal.
Generally, video players in the driver's view are illegal. Each state makes their own laws about this but my understanding is most states prohibit them in the same fashion.
In Oregon it's illegal. (ORS 815.240)
NBA players and driving sense go together like Hamas and the Knesset. I knew a guy who was an LO cop and he knew all the LO Blazers' cars by sight from pulling them over so frequently. More than a couple didn't have active licenses or insurance. Fewer things in life are more fun than ticketing, towing and impounding some super rich moron's car.
