Striking resemblance
So there we were at the pizza joint with the kids, and they had TNT going on the tube, with the sound off, right in front of me. It was a rerun of "Arli$$," the HBO black comedy series that used to follow "Sex in the City." I'm sure they clean it up a little for TNT, but there was Arliss, the unabashedly hungry sports agent, running around trying to get over on his shiftless clientele, all the while professing to the world what heroes they all are.
I kept thinking, I know a guy like that in real life, but I couldn't figure out who it was. And then, around the third slice, it hit me.

Right down to the freakin' tie!
Posted by: Jack Bog at July 31, 2006 10:57 PMGosh, the hairline is even the same. Computer identification methods would allow either one to enter into security zones.
Posted by: Lee at July 31, 2006 11:15 PMThe sleazy world of professional sports is one thing, but politics? I can't see Arli$$ stooping that low.
Posted by: Bill McDonald at August 1, 2006 01:01 AMI've been thinking of him, not Arli$$, as if he had his own armed militia, and whether one could speak reason to him to escape being targeted.
I recently sent an email asserting that his software might have accidentally blocked me from posting. No response.
I like the idea that he does not represent the left or reason, and is just a handler (without mention of the quality of his representation). It might explain some of the seeming absurdity of discussion; even if not as humorous/incongruent as Arli$$.
The tent city in Mexico City by the folks that want to support democratic elections by overturning the election results (almost peacefully) displays great logic. Imagine the losers were in power and then themselves ran the election process and had to (got to) root out fraud?
(Throughout the campaign, López Obrador claimed to speak for the majority of Mexicans, but the actual voting clearly showed that he did not.)
(Or, what Bill said.)
Posted by: Ron Ledbury at August 1, 2006 05:24 AMThanks for the link, Jack. At first I thought I'd see an update on Shawn Eric Eckardt, who changed his name to Brian Sean Griffith. You know. Tanya Harding's director of security.

Juxtaposition is nearly everything in this fast paced world.
Anyway, www.mandatemedia.com says this:
"Our president, Kari Chisholm, is an experienced political hack and web developer with nearly a decade of experience in both worlds." Stuck in two virtual realities. Poor guy.
www.thefreedictionary.com says this:
"Noun 1. political hack - a politician who belongs to a small clique that controls a political party for private rather than public ends"
Looks can be deceiving...but I guess that's the point.

Great research on word definition,
Another good example on how the truth hurts.
Posted by: Swimmer at August 1, 2006 10:35 AMThanks, Jack. I guess any publicity is good publicity.
If you wouldn't mind though, could you change that link from the mStoner site to Mandate Media?
While the folks at mStoner are good friends and we do a higher-ed project now and then during the off-season, I'm spending most of my time on politics.
Besides, over at Mandate Media, you can get a full-color version of that lovely photo.
Posted by: Kari Chisholm at August 1, 2006 11:11 AMp.s. I'm pretty sure Robert Wuhl's not going to be happy with the comparison to a minor-league web designer in podunk Portland, Oregon with a fat head.
Posted by: Kari Chisholm at August 1, 2006 11:14 AMMy second laugh out loud moment of the day. The first was when on saw Ron Saxton's photo in the Oregonian.
Posted by: Jim Ross at August 1, 2006 11:26 AMover at Mandate Media, you can get a full-color version of that lovely photo.
But it's so small!
Posted by: Jack Bog at August 1, 2006 11:46 AMIn college, people thought I looked like Conan O'Brien's sidekick. When I was an intern, Wyden's staffers thought I looked like the grandson of Congressman Ike Skelton. But my family mostly thinks I look like this guy.
Why are we talking about this?
Posted by: Kari Chisholm at August 1, 2006 02:08 PMKari, who has many of his father's qualities, is much better looking than Arli$$. Show me the anchovies! Neal (Kari's dad).
Posted by: NEC at August 1, 2006 02:35 PMI think Kari looks like Ross Day.
Posted by: Steve Schopp at August 1, 2006 09:41 PMRoss Day... Hmmm....
Posted by: Kari Chisholm at August 1, 2006 11:27 PMNow THAT dude looks like Jimmy James from NewsRadio... ;-)
Posted by: David Wright at August 2, 2006 01:50 AMPerhaps this is what cloning is all about. I hope the taxpayers arent footing their huge double bill.
