A two-fer
Few things get my mind off my troubles as well as a friendly poker game does, or a couple of days at the beach. So it was our extreme good fortune to combine the two as the usual poker suspects from Portland trekked over to the coast for the first-ever road game -- Beach Pokerama 2005.
Ate serious good food. Sloshed down the finest red wines. Had a cigar, even. Won $20 over two nights. Took a hike along the spectacular coastal cliffs. A million stars Friday night. Brilliant sun. Breathtaking views.
Most of these buddies have been playing cards with each other for around 25 years. Funny how the topics of conversation have changed over that time. Now it's vacation home ownership, world travel, even some talk of retirement creeping in.
It's a very uncertain world out there these days. But when that last card comes over and you know you've got "the nuts," life is still really good.

I can't believe that no one has commented yet, must be afraid to waste their "one new comment thread per day" opportunity and are awaiting pithier subject matter.
In any case, welcome back to the world of interaction and glad you had a nice weekend. Nothing like good cards, good friends, good wine to set you up for the week ahead.

Pithy is good.

So if I follow the rules as posted, I believe I am not able to comment on the "pithier" subject you posted later. Aw shucks, Jack - this can't be what you meant to have happen, is it?

Come back tomorrow.

Truth be told, I didn't really have a comment to make on the other post - I just wanted to be the poster child for the new policy of "a thread a day keeps the piggies away"!!

It would appear that one of the unintended (maybe) consequences of the New Comment Policy, which is only slightly less complicated than the Tax Code, is that it will cause a certain amount of premature e-commentulation anxiety among your many readers. :-)

Forget Poker. I just got back from vacation and we played Scrabble or Boggle every night! Now those are great games!
And then Mom brought out the old Probe game. No, it's a word game, not a more realistic version of "Operation."
