Clark County/Vancouver voted this down - twice. Perhaps enough of the keep Portland weird people have infiltrated enough to overturn the decision? I guess we will see.
My personal opinion is that we will turn that tax increase down.
More proof that funding rail is a big problem outside of Oregon too. Friends from Hawaii say rail transit is going full speed ahead despite public concerns. Sounds all too familiar.
"Despite a looming lawsuit, a mayoral race, and questions about funding, HART told the City Council's Budget Committee last month it would be cheaper to build and tear down the columns than wait to see if funding comes through, or if legal actions block the project".
"To be cautious they should just wait a few months. But I guess as they say it's less expensive to put up the columns and tear them down. I always worry about, I don't want our taxpayers to be left footing the bill," said Honolulu City Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi.
The article from Travelagrntcentral.com spells it out in plain language. Without Federal money, none of these rail projects would exist. The Feds are breaking the backs of taxpayers both nationally and locally. The DC politicians are nothing but drug dealers and the state and local breed are junkies. I remember when we got to vote on whether or not we wanted to pay for large capital projects. What happened? How did things get so far off course that the donkey is driving the cart and the people are pulling it?
Yes, they may be able to vote. I get the same feeling I had as a kid when the baseball from our corner game sailed through the neighbor's window. I stood helpless in the outfield staring at the breakage, hoping it was only an illusion. Someone was going to have to come up with the cash to pay for it all. But when I turned around I found myself all alone, and all the ones responsible for the damage had long since scattered.
Some couv officials are already declaring the vote is NOT a proxy vote on Light Rail.
It will fail by a huge margin exactly like the Clackastani votes on their reg. fee and Urban Renewal funding for light rail.
Then the officials will try and pull the same stunts to get around the voters.
Fortunately, from Lake Oswego to Damascus, Boring, Vancouver to Clackamas county and the now the SW corridor in King City and Tigard public the public voting appears to be bringing to an end the planning regime's tyranny.

It's not just the donkey. The elephant is up there, too.

Federal bureaucrats love spending other people money. After all, without this kind of spending many of them wouldn't have a job.

Be happy, at least they are letting them vote on it unlike here where that is the last option govt wants.
