Neighbors score big win over cell tower weasels
It looks like there won't be a hideous antenna array installed at NE 37th and Fremont (and four other locations) after all. Clearwire has backed off its plans for those locations. Plus, the one at NE Stanton and 24th seems to have fallen off the table as well.
I'll bet it has more to do with Clearwire's finances than it does about responsiveness to neighborhood concerns. But this is a major, major victory for the neighbors who fought these guys. Bravo!

Maybe these smaller, lower power versions will pan out:

I don't want to hear any bitching about dropped calls in this area, but congrats to the little guy for winning one!

How many of these neighborhood "heroes" use a cell phone?

Who cares? If it's a tradeoff between your cell phone reception and my neighborhood, I know what I want.

Those towers were not for phone coverage. There is already decent coverage in the neighborhood from multiple carriers. The towers were for moblie broadband internet coverage for people who want watch movies on their laptops while strolling around the neighborhood.
