Familiar scenes

The Blazers got beat at the last second, literally, by Allen Iverson the other night. It was eerily similar to their undoing at the hands of this fellow, who's now playing, as they say, out of his mind. For Portland, making the playoffs ain't gonna be easy. And it will hurt badly if the team doesn't get there.

I place the blame for this loss squarely on the shoulders of J. Jack. What's up with the behind the back crap when we're tied with only 15 seconds to go? Also M. Webster missing 2 out of 3 free throws with less than a minute to go in O.T. We aren't going to win anything if we keep beating ourselves like this. J. Jack makes so many unforced turn-overs (he needlessly steps out of bounds at least once a game) it's pathetic. I think the next 10 games or so are really going to show us what these guys are made of as far as this season is concerned at least. They need to stop thinking of themselves as the come back kids and start acting like they own the place.

Nah, I won't be hurt. This is the youngest team in the NBA. They were predicted to win 22 games this season. If they just finish over .500, I will be thrilled.

Next year, everyone will be a year older and Oden will come back, then I want to see results.

Most Years 40 wins gets you in, this year it will take 50 to make it from the West.

Disappointing? Sure.

Hurt? I don't think so. Portland is a team playing way above expectations. And given the almost unnatural strength of the Western Conference, Portland is still only projected to have a 31% shot at making the playoffs; they would be a shoo-in in the Eastern Conference.

And for full disclosure, I'm a Suns fan. I'm scratching my head over the Shaq trade ...

Agree, not a disappointment if they don't make it. Objectives of the season have been met:

* Establish either Roy or LMA as a full fledged star
* Improve character and chemistry
* Get fans excited
* Win some games and cultivate winning attitude
* Improve defensively (dramatic improvement in this area)

I'd say the season is a success, no?

We need to rememeber the goal, being a title contender in a couple years and stayign one throughout Roy and Oden's primes.

Whether we make ro don't make the playoffs in the brutal west this season isn;t that important. We need to grow, and learn about the players we have to figure out which ones are keepers and which ones can be used as trade bait.

Eventually we need one more minor star as 3rd scoring option (think Rashard Lewis, Lamar Odom types, borderlien allstars) Since Roy can be a PG, SG, or SF we have a lot of options. At some point Webster/Jones/Outlaw/Jack/Sergio/Webster/Blake need to be consolidated down to 2 or 3 players, a couple of those guys are probably keepers, the rest trade bait, we need to figure which ones.
