We thought he liked being on the Portland City Council, but if he goes along with the Sam Rand Twins to manipulate the date on the water fluoridation vote, Spineless Jelly is going to make his own re-election in 2014 quite problematic.
People keep score, Nick -- and your army of homeless fans don't vote. The referendum easily got the signatures you didn't think it would get. If you think jerking the voters around isn't going to bring good candidates out to send you back to law firm timesheets, you're probably mistaken again.

As someone more clever than I posted in the comment section of the big O, Nick will find out in 2014 that FLUORIDE IS BAD FOR FISH! : )
More voters in even year elections and that is bad for fluoride and his chances, as people will remember his contempt for the public message clearly registered with those signatures.
The Jelly Fish’s behavior clearly demonstrates his lack of respect for public opinion thereby placing him in the same classless dictatorial category as the Sam-Rand twins.
He's gone along with the Sam Rands too many times, on too much garbage, and now deserves the boot and a far smaller public pension than his good buddies will enjoy.
It never ceases to amaze me how incapable the electorate of Portlandia are of critical thinking. Is it just here? Are we an attractant for the thought-dead, a repository, a collection point, or is it a national calamity?
Despite our awareness that Council moving the date was a possibility or even likely, I find it in keeping with how this whole water fluoridation issue has been handled by Portland City Council.
You were not in our shoes to experience the sudden, solid two months of mobilization, expenses (personal and donated) and countless hours of VOLUNTEERISM it took the many of us to manifest the vast number of signatures we presented to show genuine public concern about this issue. For many of us, we had to put our other life priorities aside to address this matter purported to be of crisis proportions. The process was very demanding and exceedingly stressful for all of us involved.
Equity means fairness. The public has signed up to have a voice in this process. I urge you to give them enough time to make an informed choice. What is your rush??
One has to ask, why the rush to move the fluoridation vote up a year. 33,000 signatures in under 30 days is not enough to hear the public? Equity does not mean placing known fluoridation chemicals in our water, that adversely affect children of color more then white children, according to the CDC. We need dental access in our city for children in need. If our elected officials are so keen to help, with support of such a rushed vote...why not really help? Clean Water Portland is on record asking for an independent review of the science around water fluoridation practices and their potential harm and lack of effectiveness. Why would our elected officials and Upstream Coalition not support such an objective process that allows our public to be educated and make informed voting decisions.
Jack,
I know you didn't take to the idea of a recall, but in this case it might just work. I think the mood of the people has changed and the time may be right.
Perhaps those who collected signatures for the fluoride referendum will be willing to collect signatures for a Fish recall as well if he goes along with Adams and Leonard.
You may be right, he may not care to be on Council again. I don’t think he would like to have a recall on a Fish resume and I don’t think his political family in New York would like having a Fish being recalled either.
Yes, he has gone along with the Sam Rands too many times. I am still upset with the vote Fish gave for the $80 million on the Powell Butte Project, a most critical vote that facilitated moving the grand plan of PWB forward. He does goes along with the spending and increasing debt. Now he is friendly with the pro-fluoride folks and has trampled on the public process by voting for this in the first place. We can only hope that for a change he will be in favor of an independent panel review based on science and a fair public process.
All they care about is serving their paymasters and climbing the ladder of the Democratic Machine.
They seem to be very lock step in that regard.
Some have slimed (oh a typo) climbed so high
that they will slither or jump through any hoops available
to keep their political career going.
Meanwhile, in fluoridated jurisdictions, lawyers are getting ready for class-action lawsuits. At Harvard, another Key Opinion Leader may have some consequences for undercutting the research of a student whose thesis confirmed what other countries' scientists already had identified, that over-dose of fluoride is a serious risk, especially for active youth, who drink more water than sedentary youth. A cluster of osteo sarcoma in youth in West Salem will be of increasing interest, I would suppose. Retraction of industry-interested science is a serious problem in the U.S.

One thing I can think of to explain this behavior is that certain city council members must've already put their signatures on agreements.
