Mayor Char-Lie word weaseling officially begins

As we suspected last evening, when the mayor-elect of Portland opens his mouth, everybody hears something different.

This type of misleading and inaccurate story poisons the local narrative around transportation and it fans the "bikes vs cars" flames. (Just read the comments on their story. It's like throwing red meat to sharks.)

Poison, fire, and sharks eating red meat, all fanned by high winds. That does sound dangerous.

I better equip my Mercedes 450 GL with 007 machine guns, bulletin proof glass, and those tire (tyre) slicing knives.

Should be "bullet", but maybe bulletin works too...come to think of it.
Damn spell check!

I am sure just mentioning cars in any transportation plan would get our bike nazi's twitching. Words are cheap. When my head quits hitting the roof of my car on my drive through the city I will believe they have finally grown up.

You'd hope/think bike advocates would get behind improved maintenance for city streets. Riding on lousy streets is even more uncomfortable than driving on them. Especially since the city has more or less given up paving any streets except the major arterials, the most inhospitable for bikes as it stands now. Eg, the Going St greenway (or whatever they're calling it now) is a pretty great street to ride on...except it's pretty jarring 'cause of the lousy pavement surface.

A few years back at an open house someone from the city mentioned they were thinking hard on how to pave bike friendly streets without drawing tons of cars onto them. The obvious answer would be to make sure all streets are in pretty good condition, removing the temptation to drive on a 20 mph street.

Typical of the modern American - what can the government do for me and me alone.

Bike minded folks are just doing the same thing everybody else does - don't gore my ox, but go ahead and gut the Hell out of anybody else's.
