Quite the battalion of "connective tissue" in this sordid affair, MIA---"grey matter".

In their long careers, Petreaus and Allen likely ruined more than a few careers of some lower raking personnel for far less serious lapses in judgement.

I would expect those disciplined by these now senior officers, will soon be on Inside Edition to spike a football or two... can't say I'd blame them.

Every junior Officer being considered for an advanced security clearance is REPEATEDLY warned about people that might abuse a personal relationship and why it could end a career or worse.

That the head of the CIA would not only be so reckless, but would fail to do background checks of his own is very disturbing.

The entire episode reminds me of how J Edgar Hoover would have handled it.

I expect more sordid details will emerge in tiny bits for the next ten years and we will never will hear the entire story.

I doubt that the story dribbles out in details; it's more like a 70-yr accumulated reservoir and the dam bursts as a massive flood. The carnality is sideshow, delaying and distracting from the looming eruption. Which won't be delayed long.

The whole episode, or chronicle, is a BIG Deal. In brief, as I understand it: Karl Rove strategy since last year was set on masterminding an 'October 2012 Surprise' of a beseiged Middle East USembassy (or equivalent), which Obama wouldn't rescue, and therefor would undo his re-election for failing in foreign policy. Rove conspired with Netanyahu to deploy the logistics of Mossad trainers and instigators (in 'Arab' disguises) leading mercenary operatives (in 'Arab' disguises) as 'protesters' assaulting the US facility. Rove conspired with CIA/USMilitary agents/officers to be 'on training exercises' unavailable to reach the consulate and/or chain-of-command positions to not transmit orders.

The tactic of attacking a CIA 'black' site (shhhh, it's secret) with incarcerated 'prisoners' in it, (innocents? tortured?), was supposed to keep the CIA mute from complaining about the hit, (lest secrets in it would be brought to light in explaining complaint). This is where Petraeus fits in -- paralyzed by blackmail threat from ordering CIA defensive action or offensive retaliation. Other military potentates were also (supposed) neutered impotent and so complicit in 'letting it happen,' which makes accessory in the conspired plot. But discovery of the extents of the plot is publishing new names every day on the list of military and federal 'higher-ups' being pushed out into 'civilian' standing, (perhaps criminal liability); a flood of infamies.

Rove conspired with FOXtremist talkmedia to promote the attack on 'Obama weakness' but, this time FOXtremism falsely cried 'wolf! fire! once too often; audience stopped listening and the story got no traction. Now post-election, the story is coming out, more fully than FOX had focussed in it, and the BIG Deal totality and bad timing of it is causing exact-opposite unintended consequences of the plot.

Rove conspired with Republicans in the House to hold Hearings grilling (Obama-wing) witnesses under oath to testify to weakness (of Obama-wing). As it happens, testimony given now is going to implicate and incriminate the very House Republicans asking the questions for it. And the show trial FOXtremists are calling for, on stage, is going to implicate and incriminate FOXtremists.

It's a BIG plot to overthrow the government of Obama administration. BIGger than 'scandal' or 'affair,' it shows the dimension of treason. The sex dreck is distraction and delay from the eruption of government reformation. Flush out sinister infamy. In Germany, 'Nazi' was the name of a political party that got itself by its infamy banished from society, the same as 'Republican' is the name of a political party in America ...

For the sake of reasoning and the practice thereof, stipulate the presumption as fact:
That Rove bent Netanyahu's nasties to (undercover) stage a seige attack on US Middle East facility, with results within a range of emergencies requiring a rescue action, then rigging House Republicans to 'kangaroo court' the aftermath debriefing in sworn-oath Hearings of Obamanians, while parallel in the manufactured 'news' (Rove) rigging FOXtreme TVmagnification of the show trial, culminating in October Surprise 2012 which trips up Obama in the fabled manner that Carter was tripped.
Add in the scheme such components as you could know would be necessary to conduct it -- for instance, coordinate persons in key positions within FBI, Pentagon, and CIA, to pass the plan in their positions by either coercion or consanguinity.

Just hold that thought. It's the conspiracy premise, so stipulated. Now, as news is gathered and the story subsequently advances, test each evidence there is for its connection and fitness in such a presumed plot. If the clue fits, snare it.

OTOH, if all the news gathers into a random jumble of improbable personalities and purposes, then it could be unlikely to reason the pieces into a whole conspiracy. Make mindful allowance for those 'in the know' of a conspiracy are bent on informing the news that they are not in the conspiracy.

Both Demoxen and Reptiles are complicit and guilty, corrupted absolutely in the absolute federal power. The persons of partisan-istan D.C. on TV play one side against the other to obscure seeing them on the same side. Their side being: continued power held incumbent in, of, by, and for them selves.

So the federal institutions the public relies on to investigate prosecute and convict (other) federal wrongdoers are probably going to obscure the story until there's no media oxygen and it suffocates.
However, being risked exposure as criminals in the Congress Club (even if their cover-up works) is cause for retaliation in their power. Against the one(s) who cooked up such a half-baked conspiracy and epic fail -- heads will roll not by justice under the Law but by 'internal enforcement' of conformance. Watch news of Karl Rove.
