Like a lot of folks, I share Bill's characterization of Nutsy.
I look at the left side of the blog page and see the Griffin - Valade promo.
I was a hard supporter of Griffin - Valade, and posted on a lot of Boregonian stories, as "rounduptheusualsuspects" usging folks to write in Griffin - Valade.
I am getting worried that a write in for LGV may hand the election to Nutsy.
I really don't like or want Char-Lie, but I don't want Nutsy even more.
Nonny: This is where I am as well. The Smith-colytes are frightening. Hales is the devil we know (Vera 2.0). Bad for sure, but Smith has the potential to be even worse.
Not to mention that a check of his DMV records shows he had his license suspended four times, not just the once he copped to. He didn't bother reinstating it for many months, which begs the question of how he got from Portland to Salem all that time, let alone around town.
His excuse for not coming clean about all this when his one suspension to came to light? It was embarrassing.
I saw the other piece in the Oregonian about Smith's driving record, and I don't buy his explanation that he was "embarrassed."
I don't think that's how his mind works. I believe his entire approach is an elaborate con game where he uses his intelligence to fool people about his true self.
There's a reason courtrooms ask for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Jefferson decided to deceive by not telling the whole truth, and it was a clear, emotionless strategy, the way a shark decides things. Not someone who was embarrassed about anything. The key to remember with this kind of a person is that the words may sometimes be true, but the entire presentation of who he is, is a lie. It's a con game.
In many ways, Jefferson Smith's campaign is a desperate race to keep his true identity from the voters, but someone this flawed is very hard to keep under wraps.
That's why reading the comments from his followers, is so depressing. He's quite good at convincing gullible young people that's he's driven by noble intentions, but it's part of the con.
The really scary notion is that he could win. Just wait until he is less restricted, and can begin to express himself more genuinely.
Once he's in power, his followers could wake up and realize they've been had, but of course, by then, it will be too late.
Wonder how many others could become as Maywood Park? They have their own Mayor, might be one way of having several Mayors in our city, and not have to rely on the choice of Hales or Smith to run our city.

He has trouble with paperwork, deadlines, and stuff like that. He's a Big Thinker. Or is that Stinker?

What an ace cartwheeler he is too, judging by that photo. This goofball is definitely the next mayor of Portland. How could he not be.

Says something pretty sad about your town when all of the "supported" candidates are losers.
Posted by Mr. Grumpy | August 16, 2012 6:02 PM
Jefferson Smith is a violent, reckless mess. If being a sociopathic loser was an Olympic event, we would have had another gold medal.

If he does get elected, it'll illustrate pretty clearly that the mayor is merely an operative in a position of power, a sock puppet.

Interesting and alarming. And youth is and has always been easily motivated by ideology, i.e, easily manipulated.

Jefferson Smith: 'I have a bad driving record, and it's embarrassing'

Downtown Denizen: 'I still associate with this city, and it's embarrassing.'
Whatsherface must be wondering how she and her money weren't able to flush this clown in the primary.
Portland residents, you are doomed to more of the same... and that's the best-case scenario.
