From reader comments, we deduce that we've been purposefully taken off the list for election mailers by the local political campaign folks. Either that, or our address has been. Because readers report that they've recently received campaign flyers by mail from mayoral candidate Charlie Hales and City Council hopeful Mary Nolan, and we didn't get any of those. Could it really be that the posting of those flyers on this website has led the political operatives to pull our name from the list? In any event, in future elections we'll have to start collecting reports of the election porn from readers starting earlier on in the process.

I live in North Portland and have only received two mailers this election season: One from the fellow running for AG and one promoting the library bond. It probably has to do more with the slow season than it does a plot to blacklist.
We live in Cedar Mill (unincorporated Washington County) and have received no election porn, er, political mailers this round. However, given your local at the heart of it all, I believe in a "Dark Lord" watching over you and what you receive in the mail!
Prof Jack, you might indeed have been black listed. I think i live in the same zip code as you and yesterday and the day before, we got an armful of the mailers. Oh gosh, they were so heartwarming and kind. I thought I was on an email 'forward' list.
You're welcome to some of ours! Maybe they see SW Portland as a target-rich environment. We've received one from Amanda and at least 3 from the creepily feral Nolan, including a particularly nauseating photo of her posing with Barbara Roberts over "coffee". Actually, I've seen more of Roberts this cycle than I have in years.
The list of who's voted is updated daily as ballots are checked in, and available to everyone. If anyone's voted at your address you're pretty much off the list of mailers.
+1 You go off most lists a couple of days after your ballot goes in. But, then, even if you're off a list, some items take as much as four days to work their way from pre-sort to your mail box, so it's not a bright line.
It's been an election porn free election at my home...but then again in my precinct (and I'm unaffiliated with a party) the only contested races are Supreme Court seats...which I could care less about.
Mailings target 3/4 voters which means they voted in 3 or 4 of the last 4 elections. Check VAN, Jack, you must be a sporadic voter because you aren't listed, so not worth the paper or postage.

We haven't received much election mailers either. As we live in North Portland, maybe all the 'action' is elsewhere...

Can I get blacklisted from this junk mail, too? They're killing trees for nothing.

"Could it really be that the posting of those flyers on this website has led the political operatives to pull our name from the list?"
Well, gee, wouldn't that suggest that (1) you might have some influence and (2) the people doing the pulling have a smattering of good sense?
Posted by Conrad | May 12, 2012 10:11 AM
Did you vote? My understanding is that the campaigns have gotten pretty good at filtering out mailings to people who've already voted.
