West side Congressman David Wu's final days in office sure were ugly. But the run-up to the election of his replacement isn't any prettier:
Up top there is a detail from the front of a glossy mailer that's gone out from the Suzanne Bonamici camp -- we'd bet dollars to donuts that it's a Mark Wiener special. And below it is a screenshot from a Rob Cornilles television ad.
We've got to admit, all this negative campaigning has had the desired effect: We have little use for either of these candidates.

I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure the Dems have outspent the Cornilles campaign handily. Cornilles had kept it mostly positive until lately, I guess they figured they had to go negative. The Dem's national money has been used for negative campaigning from the beginning.
Interesting also that the Oregonian endorsed Bonamicci today, despite having endorsed Cornilles two years ago. They are definitely the establishment organ.
Bonamici sure wasn't impressive at the City Club debate. Very evasive on answering any questions. Same with the TV debates in November and December. I was surprised by her lack of knowledge except for the typical sound bites. Very esoteric like many candidates. "Job Creation"? Of course we're all for that, but how?
It's persuasive to me that Cornilles failed to pay his payroll taxes and they totalled $83K. What is the excuse for that? None. I borrowed money to keep my own business afloat and pay the required taxes, so I cannot get behind any candidate with that baggage.
There needs to be a new "None of the Above" option when voting. That way those of us unimpressed with EITHER candidate can at least have a vote taken away from the candidates...so if "None of the Above" gets more votes than either of the candidates, then neither of them gets elected and the office remains vacant.
Until then, I'll have to vote for Mickey Mouse, or Bugs Bunny...unless anyone is starting a write-in campaign.
I don't understand why we can't just postpone this meaningless election till the real one in November. We in the district have been without any real representation for so long already, what's another few months?
And no matter which one of these yahoos is elected now I still don't see how the members of the district are any better off than we were before.
There is a "none of the above" selection on your ballot, just write someone in, anyone.
It can be part of an organized campaign or you can write in some old dead guy.
The occupy crowd would have better spent their energy organizing a candidate in one of the minor parties and run them for this seat.
But from what I can tell they are dedicated to the protest and not to working to attain any real change.
The Democratic Machine held onto this seat for 12 years despite knowing full well that Wu was losing his grip on reality. Nevermind how ineffective he was in the halls of Congress. Nevermind the well documented history of rape.
Cornilles is the only sane option. Otherwise, you are rewarding the machine's corruption.
It HAS become quite a negative campaign...but things should be out in the open on this one....why is it not important that Bonicmici's husband was David Wu's personal attorney for the last 12 years?.....C'mon...let's get some new talent in D.C.

But from what I can tell they are dedicated to the protest and not to working to attain any real change.
Now,now...they did attain real change. Look at what they did to two parks! And I think KATU was reporting that it'll cost some $4,000 to repair the damage done to the 100-year-old elk statue.
Granted, that's not big-bucks stuff - but it's definitely change.

Suzanne Bonamici-- a Ron Wyden in waiting. I hope Avakian opposes her in the next primary.

Meanwhile, a center-right national perspective if Jack is amenable, this, from Jim Huffman's site.

Susan is just another D in a long line of Ds that have failed to impress, or just failed in that district. Expect another Tigger suit in 10 years.

Bonamici is truly a disappointing hack. No gravitas at all, and only canned non responses to any substantive questions.
Its justa repetition tof her refusal to take substantive positions in the primary.
Her whole campaign in the primary was, and now in the special is, based upon her higher name recognition.
Two vacuous boobs.
I'm in the 5th by about 5 blocks, so I won't get the opportunity to write in a candidate.

Here and I thought she was Mitch McConnell sans glasses with a bad wig.
