The media are following their every move, but between the Michael Jackson dance party incident and the long break for the holidays, suddenly we've lost interest. They were climbing on the elk statue downtown again, though -- given that that landmark was just repaired at significant expense, that should have resulted in an immediate arrest. And they're hassling the Channel 8 camera crew -- real public relations geniuses, this bunch.
Between the police killing this morning and Occupy all evening, it's a banner day for cop overtime. It will make Newt and Mittens's upcoming visit seem mighty cheap by comparison.
Apparently, this one was about Egypt. The last one had to do with immigration, and before that something else. At least the movement has gone from being all about nothing to all about everything. I just wish they would work on a few fixes instead costing us all money. When a large group puts their heads together they can choose to do a lot of good, or the alternative.
Activism of any kind is good for workers in the news media. It means they can wait for the "news" to come to them via cell phone and therefore gives them more time to enjoy their lattes.
Sorry for the confusion - my reaction to the site was much like yours (though Harry Reid's backing it, so it must be really special). OTOH, I do suspect that's where a lot of the OWS stuff is coming from.
The massmedia self-amputated their own 'standing' when they asked Occupy, "What is your purpose or message?" and Occupy answered, "(we want) moral government" and media airheads said, "What's that? How do we report that?"
In this latest melee the specifics are the demonstrators looked cross-eyed at the cops and back-sassed at the media monkeys (none of which is illegal) so cops began brutality and excessive-force infantile tantrums and then issued citations for jaywalking.
The perspective of Giuliani's 'fix the broken windows' plan is needed: In order to stop the big crime of cops murdering citizens, first stop the prevelant 'small stuff' of cops molesting, clubbing, beating, toxic spraying citizens.
Occupy Vancouver points out that the one million dollars in expenses the city claims the protest cost was almost entirely unnecessary: Occupy Vancouver did not incur these costs directly or ask the City for the support of its personnel; ...
"Never mind what the city claims the cost of the occupation was," says protester SFU Professor Steve Collis, "we know that the services Occupy provided the community with during the two months we were at the art gallery largely offset any expenses incurred by the city."
An assessment of Occupy Vancouver's services conducted by social policy graduate student Eric Hamilton-Smith found that over 37,000 meals were served, $672,000 of primary medical care was provided, and 30 people were housed for 37 days at a time when beds at primary shelters were not available. The assessment documented more than $1 million in benefits to the community.
Occupy Vancouver is challenging the city to make good ....
The St. Paul and Minneapolis police departments, along with the U.S. Secret Service, have agreed to pay $100,000 in compensation as part of a settlement in a federal lawsuit filed after the inappropriate arrests and detentions ....
So take the paycheck from cops who disturb the peace and pay it to Occupy officers of the peace who demonstrate preserving the peace.

Apparently, you fail to grasp the significance.

Max -
What I fail to grasp is if you're serious. I went to the link and my first reaction was hahahahahahaha!
Then I thought, but what if Max is serious, so I paused and now I say, if you're serious ... hmmmm, I see.
