The kids at Portland Afoot share an interesting tidbit in their May issue: Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant was seen riding the no. 14 bus on Hawthorne one weekday afternoon last month. Got off at 30th.
I can only think of a Zeppelin song about a train. The other guys had a song about a bus.
There's probably a lot of dudes hanging around Hawthorne that could be mistaken for Robert Plant. I'd be a bit disappointed if he was actually cruising on Tri-Met. Anything less than a nice stretch limo just wouldn't be right.
Yeah! I saw the same guy the other day over on Belmont-- thought it was Mick Jagger. Turned out to be some panhandling dude. Gave him a couple of bucks!
He's still making beautiful music, I have a CD I listen to in the car. He made it with a ladyfriend singer not too long ago, mellow, acoustic, philosophical stuff..
Just makes you wonder what Jimi Hendrix would be doing now; one of the greatest of the legion of his peers that suffocated in their stupors when they were young...and shone like the sun...
Plant was in PDX for about 10 hours, but he wasn't "riding the bus", I guarantee you. He arrived in PDX late in the day (from Vancouver) for sound check, left the same night via bus for a Seattle show.
Actually, Robert Plant did make a comment during his performance two weeks ago at the Schnitzer Auditorium that he took a ride on the 14 bus to Hawthorne for lunch.
True story. I was at that show. Great performance.
1. "Commuter Joe" Rose of The Oregonian. It's a good bus story and he'll have nothing to do with it.
2. TriMet. Now if he were riding WES, then it'd make for a good "WES Works!" story.
3. Mayor Sam's blog. You must wear spandex bike shorts (and be male) to make his blog.
4. Metro's blog. Buses aren't "sustainable", even though only buses serve some of Portland's most desirable neighborhoods. Like those served on the 14 bus.

Source? Because he wasn't in Portland midday. Also, Plant was in PDX about a month ago (4.19), not two weeks ago. Plant's also famous for *not* doing things like that. I was also at that show--and didn't hear a word about it.

What is he, some sort of car hater?

You'll note he was on a bus, not a streetcar. Buses are good.

I saw him on WES heading towards Wilsonville.
I bet he was going to Frys.
But when he got to Wilsonville he discovered the cho cho ends no where near anything at all.
Then he discovered he had riden the last morning commute train and had to call a cab.
Then he went to Hawthorne to ride the the bus.

Famous person, riding a bus?
Let's see who ISN'T reporting it:

Probably on his way to have coffee with Elvis. I have seen a lot of Plant lookalikes at Dignity Village.
