How these people can get away with this crap and not be arrested for animal cruelty is beyond me.

You can get away with all kinds of things in the name of science (and I am a science geek when it's not run amok). I had a vegan friend who worked in the medical field who thought it was fine to do whatever with lab mammals because it helped science..... sigh. I eat meat but I also believe in humane treatment of animals.
