The Saltzmanites will no doubt jump all over this.

Well, I'm sure if the roles were reversed that neither Volm nor her backers would say a word about the empty suit's DUI . . . . er ... maybe not, right?
Getting soused and operating a motor vehicle is a big deal these days -- doing so while a candidate for public office is a very bad sign.
What a letdown. Coulda been a contender; she did better than Cornett despite having no money. I hope she gets some help for whatever demons she's trying to drown with drink.
If I were to hazard a guess as to why, she's in some serious financial trouble. It's sad that Sam the Tramwhore gets a walk for his drunken driving accident while Mary will get the book.
If Volm were smart she stay on target with Saltzman's council vote to give $600k to his girlfriend's charity. With Kitz's investigation, that lack of integrity now seems forgotten.
This should be her new facebook photo. I have always enjoyed watching Mary Volm unravel in public. I still will vote for her no matter what she runs for. She's worth the entertainment.
"End of political career, at a minimum." What else could happen to her? As long as its her first DUI its just a slap on the wrist. BTW, hasn't she posted comments on here from time to time? I don't always read the comments but I seem to remember her name...
Saltzman got more than 50%, didn't he? That means he was elected outright in the primary, as Jack notes above. Why no correction by KATU 24 hours later?
I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Very sad, really. Here's a person with tremendous intelligence and potential while being an idiot all at the same time. I would still put her above ANY of our current council members.
I can't believe no one has mentioned that child molester currently squatting in your Mayor's office, and the drunken car wreck he caused up on Jantzen Bea -- oh, never mind.
She was a fairly frequent contributor to the comments section on this blog. Not on this thread, though...
I don't know - being drunk on a Vespa (are you kidding!) and then getting self-righteous about it may be a qualification for public office in this town these days...
"Getting drunk is not a criminal activity, its our culture that is sick, not Mary."
Nice try, but nobody's hitting her for getting a buzz on -- it's the operating a motor vehicle while lit that's the world-class idiocy.
Of the many things I'm grateful for, that I didn't kill or hurt someone in my drinking days is way way way up near the top of my list. Everytime you see someone you love, consider how often their lives are imperiled by people drinking and driving -- heck, they are possibly alive only because I didn't chance to hit them and kill them when I was driving down the road with my hand alternating over one eye so that I could see more clearly. I know what I'm talking about here because I'm talking from deep experience.
I agree that our society is sick, but she's got a death wish going at some level or she wouldn't be scooting around while lit. That's some sick too.

Doing so on a scooter -- and then going into road rage mode -- is supremely dumb. End of political career, at a minimum.

Weird enough to run for Mayor, I suppose.

BTW, KATU didn't seem to notice -- Volm lost in the primary election in May. She's no longer a candidate for anything except diversion.

Unless you happen to get caught at Jantzen Beach by Portland Police when you are already mayor.

Remember the days when getting a DUI was no big deal? It was almost a right of passage.
My god, how times have changed.
